Does anyone know if it is possible to put a 500 engine on a 250?

I'm sure your first question is, "Why would you ever want to do that?"

Situation: I have a 2001 250R that sat, was re-invigorated, sat again, and now has no compression in the engine, definately valve replacement possibly one of the cylinders is blown.

Makes a ticking sound when I can get it started.

I'm not sure where I can get reliable 250 engines (I've seen some on Ebay, but how could I be sure before purchase?).

An old friend killed his '05 500, and is parting it out.
The engine would be cheap and I know how he takes care of his bikes.

Simple answer- SIGNIFICANT FAB WORK REQUIRED

If you were expecting an easy bolt on type thing, think again. I have herd it is easier on the pre-gen Ninja 250R, in which your case matches, but it still requires knowledge and skill, plus workspace and tools to get the job done. If it is just a project, would be hella cool- but don't bite off more than you can chew!
