I've been wanting a helmet cam for a long time, and from the ones I've looked at, the hero seems to be the best bang for the buck...

Budget:

Really freekin slick, but way pricey:

Hmmm not sure, watched the Hero sample vid, good vid by the way... quality looks good. But it only runs at 512x384. Thats a good point Outinthedark, any mountable cams of this style running HD? Think it would be a little hard?

This I would look for are, easy on off, durable, basically whack it on and go.

Not sure if there is really that much between them to clearly say that one or that one?!?! Opinions?

You could try putting a small Kodak v570 in your helmet, its slim and a very small camera. Good framerates and you can upload to High Quality on youtube, but I can understand if you didnt want a camera inside your helmet.

Maybe try some kind of mounting option using the tripod thread on the bottom?

Yeah there was that, but I'm not just interested in that. Looking for other angles, and i dont want to be mounting a camera close to the ground that doesnt have cover.

Having a hunt for some others now, I might look at a HD camcorder rca input for a lipstick cam, then make up a small backpack with all the gear in. Muffle the mic a little to cut down on noise, make up an battery pack, the only issue with that is, where ever i mount the camera I'll have a lead running to it.

My girlfriend works in electronics and she sells alot of camera's. I'll give her the task of finding something and see what she comes up with. It is a tricky situation.

What kind of angles are you looking for?

haha well those are some different angles spielberg!

About the HD webcam...

You could buy an Acer netbook and extend a line to a somewhat HD webcam, we havent really perfected HD webcam, its more like DVD Quality webcam.

Or, use your laptop, keep it on High Performance power settings so it doesnt sleep when you close the top and keep it in a backpack and run your wires from there on to the angles you want.

Damn...I'm good for something!

Yeah I was thinking something like that, sure would have to be a durable cam, though I've seen them coated in metal lately because of travelers and every airport terminal you go through you have to drag the thing out. Mount small bases that match the male adapter on the bottom of the camera. I'm sure it could be done.

Felix, I've been looking into this as well, especially for dreamgarage.com, and I'm thinking that the best bet would be 6 Hero cams, 4 wide lenses, 2 normal lenses, mount them all up on the bike, making sure to keep certain ones on specific sides so as not to show them in the rest of the vids, and haul ass up a canyon for a good 5-6 minutes of film...

I was also thinking about building a bracket to bolt on under the rear cowl and "hoist" to suspend a camera above the rider, so you can see the knee dragging really well from side to side.

Twice I believe, and nope.

I've simply spent quite a few hours looking into the various cameras on the market and different ways to do it, And compared video and audio quality. And for bike mounted picture and audio that seems to be the best.
As for vlogging Mordeth style I still recommend the V610. Which mind you I don't have.

I do however plan to have a Tachyoninc soon, And if I like it possibly 3.
