So, today I decided to play hooky from work and meet some fellars at the track for some education, pointers, and generally a good time! I was pretty pathetic. I got passed I don't know how many times. I also had the smallest bike, and it was only my second time on a track, EVER! I'm so excited, and happy, I have to a be a little narcissistic here, and share. Every time I look at these pics I"m like "THAT'S ME! I DON'T LOOK HALF BAD..." In the pics I look a lot better than it felt. Among many things, I learned my body resists leaning right, I don't look far enough ahead, and I need to adjust my pegs up, get rid of the feelers, and get an exhaust that doesn't scrape... After all that, I then need to learn how to ride....
The track didn't require any prep of the bike, nor leathers, so I strapped on my knee guards and went after it....
These two bastards were quick! The guy in the lead has almost 2,500 miles at this track, and he was absolutely un-catch-able!
Finally getting something somewhat right....
Watching and trying to imitate...
This guy behind me has only been out 4 times, and he was passing me like I was standing still!
I have so far to go still... Oh dear.
I'm working so hard, and she just feels the need to sit up and take it easy, freakin SuMo!
Passed, and about to be passed 2 more times before I get to 70....
Full tuck, balls out, and they're just cruisin' past....
This corner was a bitch, but it got better as the day went past...
So the track master decides to chill behind me and point out all my flaws when we pull off... I couldn't thank him enough!
The pits
The track master doing his thing:
Dude with serious skill...
All was not lost however, I passed these 2 dudes at one point or another in the day, which made me feel very warm and fuzzy inside. A CBR600 and an SV1K.... I gotta take pride in something, ya know!
At the end of the day I understand why people get addicted to racing. The bikes are awesome, and pushing them is fun. Pushing yourself is more fun, and getting educated is even more fun. The entire day I did not hear a negative comment, but lots and lots of constructive criticism. "Try this, try that, focus here, watch him, follow me, I'll follow you, this line, do this with your body position, no faster in this corner, etc, etc". Oh was it glorious! I need to win the lottery... Oh, and I also learned racing is hard work. Holy cow was I tired afterwards! I need to start working out. There was a guy out there that did 60 laps in a row, not uber fast, but within 3 seconds of the lap record... An absolute machine, this guy! All of a sudden I'm glad I can say I have only 22hp. I don't feel so bad about being slow....
