What is the difference of a Z rated tire and a non z rated tire

The letter is the tyres speed rating.

The letters are indicative of the tires speed rating.
I'm not sure exactly what a Z rated tire it rated to, but google is your friend ;P
A speed rating means the maximum speed that the tire was engineered for.
Operating a vehicle over this maximum is highly unsafe, as the tires were not designed for the added stress, and could result in injury or death.
