I am aware how much more tire matinence is on a motorcycle than a car, but how can I tell if the tires are good and how exactly do check the pressure? Will a bicycle pump suffice to increase pressure? Anything else I should know?

OOOooo boy we got us a wild one here.....LOL

Flat spot is when looking at ur tire u will see in the Center instead of being rounded it will be flat across.....
U may have a lot of tred still on sides of tires.....
But the center may be close to the inner belts....

I bicycle pump will pump up a motorbike tire.....
U can also buy a small air compressor at a walmart, ect.

Campbell Hausfeld FP2028 1 Gallon Pancake Air Compressor - Walmart.com

I have this out in my bike garage to do my tires.....
Works great.....

I also have a 5 horse power in my cellar for bigger stuff...

Lokk for cuts in tires, nails, anything that shouldn't be there....

Front tires mite have some cupping....
Thats a sort half moon shape worn into the tire in places...

Also check chain/sprockets....
Sprocket shouldn't have completely pointed teeth....
Chain should not be rusty....
See how this sprocket has a bit of a square edge on the top of teeth...

Not pointed....

Yes a bicycle pump will work if that is all you have, however if you are on the road and need to do a repair and need some air (which can happen a little more frequently depending on where you ride), you'll need a portable source of air in case of an emergency.
