So my gf was kind enough an offered to buy me a helmet once I got my bike, I went to a local bike/gear store in town an started to try stuff on. The sales assoc shoed me a scorpion 1100 series helmet that priced at $299.99 and said it was one of his best helmets (not saying all, BUT theirs some sales assoc that just want to sell you the most expensive thing and don't really care about your needs) I am wondering if Anyone has had this helmet or any scorpion products? (This is my first bike, and not familiar with what's some good riding gear) I seen the scorpion 1000 online and it was around 150 dollars cheaper an was basically the same? I was also looking at a Joe rockets atomic 4.0 riding jacket that was priced $150 it was a little on the heavy side but seemed pretty durable incase of a fall; so what my question is, does anyone know of better/more durable gear for around the same price if not cheaper? Any opinions an suggestions would be appriciated :)

For helmets: look at comfort, the padding, safety, and dot sticker. A lot of times you pay for the name and design. I got a all black with a clear shield and it has a sun shade inside the helmet that I can click down if the suns out. Plus 4 vents I can use.
Jackets: get one with armor and that's fitted. Jackets are made to save ur limbs and back.

I have field armor also. I love it. Bright orange. The only thing I don't like is my backpack sticks to the spine part when I tighten the bag down. So I have to bend over and then tighten it.

Good points guys, calialex, find a product that fits your body snuggly but comfortably. Helmets should always be a DOT or DOT/Snell. For the jacket a fitted fit works best in the event of a fall the Armour does what it needs to-protect. if they move around in a tumble what are they doing ... nothing!

Let us know what you get.

Yeah, I agree as well. Also, one added think. Look for helmets that also has the SNELL sticker as well. SNELL has, I would say, up one on there safety standards on helmet. I purchased a scorpion exo 400 solid Black that has the DOT plus SNELL sticker. Feels comfortable and fits well on my head. Plus it's a nice inexpensive helmet. But obviously, get the helmet that's comfortable on you. If you want to read about the SNELL Foundation, here is the link: http://www.smf.org/home

The helmet I purchased (Bell Vortex) is both DOT/Snell 2010. I believe DOT would suffice in a basic fall, but if you can get a helmet within your price range that includes Snell 2005/2010, it will be added protection. Nothing wrong with protecting the very thing that allows you to enjoy the art of motorcycling.

So I ended up getting the Scorpion 1000 and it's pretty sweet! Wish the airflow was a tad bit better but it has a cool feature that cracks the very bottom of the visor to allow a good amount of air to circulate through so it somewhat makes up for it lol, the drop down shades also come in handy!! A little better if the drop down shades "dropped a little more" other than that style, looks, comfy-ness and price is great! Recommend I'f your in need on a helmet an don't wanna spend too much

Ps
It is snell an dot approved

No way dude! That is awesome! Take your friends dad out to eat wings or something. I will wait for a pic! That's exciting.
