Hey guys, Ninjeff here. I'm a new member as most of you can tell, and i'm making a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250R my first bike. Right off the bat, i plan on saving up for a few mods, just for pure aesthetic looks for my preference. I want the bike to look how i like it, and not how others think it looks good. But that aside, i'm stuck on slip-on exhausts.

I've done my research, i've seen a bunch of slip on exhausts, but since i dont personally know anyone with a Ninja 250, i have no way of seeing it face to face. I want to know what exhaust is loud, but not overly loud to the point i need earplugs or starting it up at 6am wakes up my entire neighborhood. The people closest to me can deal with it. :)

I've been looking at HMF exhaust, but apparently it's really loud. Louder then i seem to be looking. Youtube videos i know don't do them any justice, so i don't want to rely on that. Any advice?

Some slip ons come with plugs or dB killers that help keep the sound level down, but still change the note of the exhaust from the standard sewing machine sound of the 250R!

I have heard that yoshimura and akrapovik make good 250 pipes. I personally have a 650r with a two brothers pipe and love it but I don't know what it would sound like on a 250. But two brothers is known for their deep sounding exhaust instead of a rice burner sound and the pipe also comes with a dB killer tip that is optional.

My issue is that i'll be starting it daily at around 5:30am.... So i don't think getting a loud exhaust will be a great idea... I don't want to piss off a ton of people, but i like the deep growl of the Two bro's and HMF....

Good luck. A lot of the slip-ons, even with the plugs and db killers are still pretty loud. I had a danmoto slip-on for the 250, with a "silencer" plug in it. Still pretty darn loud. I liked it tho, but pretty loud. A female friend at work bought the bike from me, she just left my house last night after work (we work second shift), I could hear her pull away for a good block or so.

I've also noticed that there isn't a HUGE difference in sound from one exhaust to the next, only slight differences, but everything I've heard in person has been loud.

youtube is your friend....

However, what you're asking is difficult to answer.... What is loud to you? Is loud to you also loud to your neighbors? How anti-internal combustion/noise are your neighbors? I have no problems being woken up by a dull thud-thud-thudding form a sweet exhaust note, as long as it stays respectfully slow/low RPM in the apartment complex, ya know? You might want to check and see if your area has noise ordinances, and get a DB rating for those, then buy based off of if the can complies....

I love my DanMoto, and am never fearful of firing it up in a neighborhood in the odd hours of the morning, because even though it's loud, and I know people can hear it in their houses, I'm not revving it to high hell or trying to annoy them. :)

thanks for the replies. They do help, as for what i feel is loud... i can't really say. I don't want a exhaust that needs earplugs when standing next to it. I want a bike that has a nice sound, louder then stock, but not so loud. Sadly i haven't heard anything as low as i'd like, but the stock just won't do. Spooph, You live in B.C.?

nope, I'm in Colorado a few degrees south of you. :) I think I'll be in WA for a day or in June or something ( I still need to plan that damn trip.) :) Youtube isn't cutting it for ya, huh? Keep in mind, the longer the can, the deeper the sound will be, and the less higher pitched rasp...

Ahhh. i Read the Westminster, taking it as New Westminster, a small city here. I think thats why i like the HMF exhaust. The can is long, and has a deep sound. This is just solidifying my choice. Although, i prolly won't have it in a while. Just found out my financing isn't approved. Need to find a new way to get this bike. It sucks to be young with no credit!
