Don't be over confident. Ride carefully, especially if it is a brand new bike with new tires. They will be a bit slippery until they are broken in. Like previously stated, ride the speed limit and watch out for people in cages.

Don't be impatient, relax so you could SEE (search, evaluate, execute) to allow a safer ride experience. Remember you are learning the new moto, don't push your limits.

Take a riding course. Wear full gear. Check maintenance items (tire pressure, chain tension, oil level, etc) regularly.

I generally recommend a used smaller/lighter cycle if you don't have much road experience.

I found someone, with LOTS of experience, to ride mine back when I bought it. He has been riding for 20 years or more and owns his own bike. So I knew that I could trust him.

I then played around in a parking lot and rural areas until I was comfortable with it.

Maybe ask the dealer if they can deliver it? (If it's not too far, then it's their responsibility until it's in your driveway.) Better to do that and be honest that you aren't comfortable riding in busy areas yet. Rather then acting like a pro but really you're nervous as hell when you try to drive away with it. (That's just my take on it, people respect honesty.)

I had the dealership deliver mine. I didn't want my first ride to be on a busy highway. After they dropped it off I drove around the neighbourhood for a bit to get the hang of it. My first time on a street bike. All went well

Yeah, I think that's the best choice. I bet you were much more relaxed on the first ride too, being in a neighborhood that you are very familiar with and not having all eyes on you while pulling out of the dealership. I know I was.

I would have been real nervous pulling away from where I bought mine. Real busy city areas and 6 lane highway to get it back.

I will see if they will charge for it to be delivered or not, but I feel pretty comfortable with driving home snag I know i'm going to be cautious as hell if I end up driving it home
