Hello,

My name is Reggie I am in the US ARMY just returning from Iraq. Im looking for a new toy ie the Kawasaki Ninja. I have heard many opinions about it and I think I will stick with the 250 for now. The problem I have is should I buy it Used or New? I can buy a brand new one like the 2011 or 2012, or a earlier used model. But whats the difference between the 08 09 models from the 11 or 12? Glad to be part of the newninja forum!

Welcome back! Thanks for serving.

Is this your first cycle? Buying a good used one is always a good move financially. Be sure to keep enough cash to buy all of the gear that you need.

The new model has 17" wheels and updated styling, but the older models are well-liked by many as well.

Personally I like them both. Styling and price will help you decide.

Maybe someone with experience with both models can give you more info.

EDIT: Sorry, I was thinking you were talking about the previous gen vs the current gen. As far as the current model, there haven't been any major changes since they were introduced (in 2008 ) that I know of.

Welcome back Brother!!! Glad you made it home safe and sound.

I don't think there is much difference between the 08/09 models vs the 10/11/12 models. I know the earlier versions(08 maybe 09) have a polished muffler where as the 10+ have the black muffler. Then I think the only other difference is the paint schemes. I'm sure others with more info will chime in soon enough for you. Whatever you get have fun and be careful!!!

Welcome mate, good to have you back!
The others have pegged it right, physically the bike has not changed since 2008. Cosmetically, the exhaust, paint schemes and the dials have changed colours......That's it!!

welcome and thanks
Have you taken the MSF course or any riding clinics or rider training? We don't want anything to happen to you now.

08 through 12 is all cosmetic changes. new has a warranty. Not that they have any real problems.

Welcome to the forum and indeed, thanks for serving!

Yes, the other have it right, it's all cosmetic from 08+. Prior to '08, from '88, there were a few changes here or there, but not much.

If this is your first bike, you will probably drop it, in a parking lot, your drive way, or heaven forbid while riding. Hopefully it doesn't damage you or bike too bad when it happens. I don't mean to be a naysayer or negative, it's just a probability as real as the bike is fun to ride... So buy used, even buy a little banged up. This will just be your first of many. You'll get addicted, and if you go about this right, then you'll have many years of riding ahead of you. You're starting off right by choosing the 250.

If you've ridden before and are still choosing to go with a 250, why did you decide on that?
