A few things come to mind that could make it do that.

A shifter lever that isn't adjusted properly, shifter lever pivots that are binding and need lube, or worn parts in the transmission.

What oil are you running and how long since the last change?

How many miles on the engine?

Focus on the easiest stuff first.

This should probably be moved up to the 250 Technical Topics section.

Thanks this was very helpuful. I just recently had the chain and sprocket changed and the mechanic removed the shifter in order to do it. Im sure that is what is its. I will take your advice and switch motor oils too. Thanks

Hopefully that's all it is.

If you have a Kawi shop do the oil change you'll get the Kawi oil, but if you are doing it yourself I'd give Shell Rotella T6 a try. I run it in all my cycles.

It's the blue bottle, and you can find it for $20 (on sale) to about $25 per gallon at most auto stores and even Walmart.
