installation of USB power adapter

got a question... i just bought a USB power connector, which i would like to install on my 2012 er6f, for feeding a smartphone or a GPS device
obviously the installation should ensure that there is no power sent to the adapter, whenever the ignition key is 'off'

i heard that some Kawi bikes actually come with an extra stock lead for this purpose... has anyone found it on their own bike?
otherwise, could you suggest how to connect the adaptor (one lead to battery and one to fuse panel?)

Anything you add to a bike is all subject
To your installation. It could be powered by your battery or fuse panel and could be on all the time. Or it could be powered by a switched power and again be powered from the above just with a switch. Or you could be wired to the ignition. Anyway works but I personally like to hook it up to a battery lead so i can charge when the key is off etc. you can access a constant 12v in the fuse box spare It's your closest power source to the handlebars. Hope this helps

got it, thanks a lot byte, for this... am still hoping to find a spare stock lead hiding under a fairing.. the Z1000 has this feature, which would make it a breeze... am trying the service & maintenance manual too
I guess I should've explain more I have read the schematic and have not been able to find a wire run with the 12 V source on your particular bike however I will attach the color code for wire schematics on the ignition and constant and battery for you I will also copy a link to your bikes manual as well hope this helps

Here is the wire type
great stuff, thanks a bunch byte... most useful!
I wired directly to the battery and installed a switch. A lot easier installation and I could charge even when the key was off, for example, when I was taking in the sights.
That's the way I do those too. So much nicer to be able to charge all the time
