Spooph will be the first to tell me I'm a helmet snob... I don't deny this, I like my Shoei, it's built, worn and fits well. I feel confident in its abilities to keep everything where it should be in the event of an off.

I'm not looking at a new helmet more suited to my dual-purpose riding. I've got 3 main choices, Shoei DS Hornet, Icon Variant or a motocross +goggles setup.

I love the Shoei, but you're looking at over $800 of helmet. Icon is half that, but I've got no idea about the BQ. Third choice I'm unsure of how that style of helmet does in a road crash?!

So what I'm asking, who here rides with a ICON helmet of any type and how do you find it?

And who has ridden with motocross and goggle combos on road

Cheers

Felix

I loved the Icon Varient when it came out. Even at half the price of a Shoei, it's still a pricey helmet at around $400 (taxes in) around here. I'd expect a lot at that price and I was disappointed when I actually tried the helmet. It seemed to be cheaply built, I found the vent controls flimsy and overall was not impressed at the product for the price. Seemed less solid than my $225 HJC. So I passed on it. Still seeking a new helmet.

I have a buddy that crashed in his icon helmet, did everything it was supposed to do. The visor mechs are the only thing that broke. He said it vents well, but is heavy and phys heavy on his head. It does "feel" cheap, but they are decent helmets. You will be highly disappointed going from a shoei to an icon tho. I like their other gear, but other than looks, their helmets are just ok.

Pretty sure Scorpion is not available in Australia. I was looking at one of those similar to yours, but could not find a dealer anywhere.

I ran an Icon Domain about 5 years ago. Had a 40mph tip over where my head bounced off the tar and slid about 30 feet on the shield. Held up perfectly. Not even the shield popped off. But they are heavy. I didn't feel mine was cheap feeling. Last 2 helmets are suomy spec-1r extreme and Bell star...once you've felt those in weight and venting, there are no comparisons. But you are still in the $800 range. sportbiketrackgear.com often has closeouts...you'll find great prices on Scorpion (which got a great sharp rating). The only bad thing I've heard is the venting isn't that great. But they are very short $$.

Hope I'm not grave digging this post.

Had a Shoei Flip-up (forgot the name) it was a decent helmet but hated it because it fogged up too easily.

Icon Airframe is a pretty good helmet. I do like the fit of icons they actually taught me my helmet size is a large not extra large.

I love motocross helmet setups not crazy about smaller goggles like WileyX I'm thinking about doing an icon motocross set up nothing like feeling the wind only sucks at high speeds = slight head bobble, even when you tuck in.

I'm a brain in a cap guy = German Helmet around the city, unless I'm going high speed.
