Ok this is why I ask....my bike has never been below 1/2 of a tank ... yesterday I was right at the empty line, so I pulled over at a gas station to fill it up..(I stand the bike right up possition) to get more into the tank... it stop on 4 gallons!! Heck I thought it was 4.5 gallons?
Is it really 4.5 gallons?? Or is my gauge messing up? Anyone having some similar problem?

The lowest I've been is a little lower than a 1/4 of a tank, and the pump said 4 gallons (ish). Don't know if that helps, but the fuel gauge in some vehicles doesn't reach the bottom so that it looks like your empty but your really not, just a precaution so you don't run out of gas (usually newer models of cars) I don't know if this is true with our motorcycles or any.

Yeah. U are right. Newer cars have that reserve gas.. My guess is next time carry a full gallon of tank and just see how far it will take me before it will die on me. Heck I am not complaining I am just concern on figuring out if I am really getting 60 + of miles per gallons as they say it should be. That extra 1/2 of gallon will make a difference ???

According to Kawasaki specs. it is a 4.8 gal / 18.0 L tank. The fuel gauge is slightly off. But in this case it is a good thing. This keeps you from actually running out of gas. If you notice when the ninja gets low enough on fuel the performance ( idle and acceleration) will change ever so slightly. Filling the tank all the way up with the bike in the upright position reduces the amount of air space in the tank, thereby decreasing the gas vapor expansion area. Most of the time when I fill up, it's about 3.8 gals ( I have put in 4.3 once) with the bike on it's side stand. My avg. miles are about 220-230 to a fill up. That's about 60mpg avg., running mostly hwy speed of over 70 mph.

My gearing is 15/42. I also have a actual fuel gauge where as some ninjas don't. Do you have an FI Ninja. If so, your mpg may be different. Also there are many factors that may affect mpg. (tuning, climate, riding style, roads, gearing, fuel quality, tires) As far as the idiot light goes it is more likely to be way on the safe side for the sake off the injectors.

As soon as I fill up and get 10 miles on i'm already off of FULL. The top half goes down fast and i have a ton of fuel on the bottom half. On my Iron Butt Ride i had a leg that took me below E and i was still only able to get 4.5 G in it. You have a lot more fuel left than you think. Find out your milage and then take that times 4 and you have your distance that you can go between gas stations w/o any problems. On trips i take it from 200-230 miles on a tank.
