Ever since i watched "A twist of the Wrist II," I've been practicing blipping the throttle like crazy so that i can REALLY use it when i need to. However, i am unsure how low my rpm's can (while the clutch is engaged) before serious wear an tear occurs in the engine. I remember reading that earl likes to keep his RPM's above a 3k, but when shifting down from 6th gear going 40 MPH on a lil 250r... it's kind of hard for a nooby to get the shifts perfect every time. I'm just curious if i'm causing any harm to my bike.

Also, after watching that video i'm feeling a hell of a lot more confident on my bike. Anyone who neglected to watch it or hasn't heard of it really should.

Higher rpm engines are harder to get them shifts just right.....
Practice n learning ur machine is all u can do....
My bike won't even idle below 1500......
Had the shop check it n they said.....let it idle at 1500 then....
I like to keep them rpms at 3000 if possible when running because....
I have a bit of giddyup n go when needed......
Smaller higher rpm engine i'd probly keep it at 4-5000.....?
My redlines at 11.......
Maybe ur is 14-15,000....?
Don't let ur bike lug.......Not good for ur bike......
But no need to run it at 3/4 redline either......
Well unless ur playing at the track.......LOL...
If ur running ur small bike up n down the freeway......
well then u gotta do what u can do......
shoulda got a bigger bike......
I hate freeways.....n hate where my bike runs on them......
70+mph......is running above 4000.....
I'm gunna change sprocket gearing when the time comes i need them....
One tooth bigger to get rpms down......
but it seems a 650 has enough nuts to handle this.....
I'm sure glad i didnt buy a 250-300........
wished i went a liter bike, but.........
650 will work 4 me for a few years.....
Ride....enjoy.....stay on 2 wheels.....n.....pick up the cute chicks.....LOL

In my manual it said that when down shifting let your rpms drop to 5000 or lower before shifting. I tried it, gotta hold clutch in for a few seconds then change gear ,release clutch. Does that even make sense, do I know what I'm talkin about?

It will depend on where ur rpms are at the time...:facepalm:
If ur cranking say 8,000 u wouldn't want ur rpms to drop to 5,000 because ur rpms are gunna be going even higher with the downshift..
I never run that high anyway, but say i am at 5,000, and gunna downshift one gear. I'd wouldn't let my rpms change a bit cause there gunna jump to 5,500 or 6,000 after the shift.
