Hey everyone,

Just doing my intro thread here. I am a woman and I am currently looking into getting a used Ninja 250 or maybe 500, maybe.

I rode dirtbikes a bit as a teenager. Not really enough to count for anything, so the world of bikes is completely new to me. I am pretty savvy in cars and can drive a manual. I'm hoping that'll give me an advantage!

I am hoping for a black bike that I will do modifications to, I'm really excited for the project.

Welcome, you will find this forum more than a place to post ... Give it time and you will feel like family. Congrats and knowing how to drive a manual does give you an advantage .... Great to have you!

As for getting a 250 or 500 that could depend on availability. Some will say 250 others 500, get what feels right and what's within budget. My .02 :)

Thank you! I'm glad that'll help!

Between 250 and 500 I really don't care, I'm just looking at what is available. I feel like I could ride either no problem, lol.

Riding is riding ... Ata girl! Will this 250/500 be a long term moto?

Thank you.

Ya know I have not quite decided on that. Part of it depends on what I'll be able to find. I really want to do tons of modifications to it and I'm sure it will quickly become my baby. Only problem is that I'm a little of a speed demon so I may decide that I need something faster/bigger. Who knows. Hopefully I can do enough mods to suit my fancy :D

You might want to lean towards a 500 then. This will allow you to have a good learning moto that has sufficient power to allow you to keep it longer and enjoy the power behind a 500 vs a 250.

That may be a good idea. My boyfriend is freaking out about me getting a bike at all, he doesn't want me to get hurt. So convincing him a 500 is okay may be tough. Plus I couldn't find any and I unfortunately don't have time to be picky...I need transportation now :(

Start on a used 250 if you don't have any street experience. Take a riding instruction class immediately, or sooner. Buy a full set of gear and use it all the time. Don't give into the "need for speed" or you will pay the price. Practice maneuvering and getting the feel of the cycle in an empty parking lot with good clean pavement. Put new tires on anything you buy used that's more than 4 years old - no matter how many miles the tires have on them. Learn to use your front brake very well. Learn to do your own maintenance.

Have fun, but don't get overconfident if you haven't had an incident during the basic learning process. There's a lot to learn, and the street is not very forgiving.

Seems like I've been saying this stuff a lot lately...

Update

Hey everyone, figured this would be a good place to update on my bike status.

Shortly after my initial introduction I bought a 50cc scooter. It was cheap and my car broke so I need something immediately. After two months of riding it I have finally bought a 250! I was able to find a low mileage black Ninja. I literally bought it today and am going to pick it up in a couple of hours. Photos to come!!! So excited!! I'll be posting a lot about mods.

Oh yea, it comes with a Two Brother's exhaust system! Sounds mean. Once I have photos up, I would really like someone to help me identify the kind of pipes and the specs and what not.
