New rider here -- just finished my MSF course and picked up a 2011 Ninja 400 with 38,xxx km on it for CAD$2000. It's been well broken in by its previous owners but looks to be very well maintained (new tires, chain, and a few other parts). Pretty clean except for one crack in the fairing (apparently from a standing drop). Really cant complain for the price.
Looking forward to customizing it a bit and learning to ride. I used to run Solo II and some lapping days with my RX8 some years back, and this is my new 'toy'. Let's see where it goes.
