I agree you should definitely wear a helmet at all times. I don't wear everything all the time just as my pic shows but I do wear a helmet. One time to took my bike from the front to the back of my house without my helmet and it was so weird to not have it on. I was almost scared. I think if you start to wear a helmet from the start of learning to ride a bike you'll want to wear it all the time. I don't know any different. Get used to it and it'll be no different than learning to wear a wedding ring. I had to do that and believe it or not I'm still alive. =)

BTW Scorpion helmets are great. More affordable yet still quality and nice enough you can remove the liner for washing and it's easy to switch out the tinted shield when it gets dark.

I always try to have my clear shield on. I got caught in the dark once with only my tinted one. I thought I'd be home sooner and ended up staying longer. I ended up having having to ride home with it. I was afraid a cop was going to see me and stop me. When I'm in town with a lot of lights it's not so bad but if I'm on the highway I can def. tell I can't see near as well. I wish my jacket had a place to fit the other shield in case that ever happens again. The guys at the bike shop said that the model of Jacket before the one I got actually had a place for it. It fit inside and wrapped around your body in case you needed to switch them out. That would be nice.

yeah I don't know.. maybe you can't get a ticket for the darker shield. I just assumed that you could. Knowing the stupid cops around here one would try to get me in trouble somehow for having a dark shield. Not much goes on around here so there are a lot of traffic cops that have nothing better to do than to get you for something. I wonder how much a ticket would be if a cop caught me with my shield up for a bit? Not that I put it up much. Anyway, that's something I love about my Scorpian helmet. It's so easy to change them out when I need to.

Try Scorpion Helmets they are very good quality it take literally 10sec to change out a shield and they are around $150 - $300 depending on what model you get. If you don't get the EXO-1000 I suggest you get an aeroskirt for $8 bucks. It clips under the chin and keeps the wind off of your chin.

Then you can get this backpack:

I am a strong believer of "ALL THE GEAR ALL THE TIME" trust me if you say, im only going to the store for a minute, and some douche pulls in front of you and you fall, your gonna wish you had your gear on. accidents happen anytime, anywhere, dont you want to be protected at all times? I tend to value my skin and i wouldnt want to lose time at work because of an accident.

I would rather have to work a few extra hours to replace gear that did its job, than lose out on hours while waiting for your skin to replace itself.

Just my 2 cents... "do what you want, your gonna anyway..."

Somebody on this thread mentioned getting stuck at night w/ a tinted shield and having trouble (excessive time) swapping out the shields. Just wanted to let you guys know that I just bought a helmet from HJC called the FS-10. (www.hjchelmets.com) It only cost me about $250 US and what's nice about it is that it has a one-touch sun visor that stores inside the helmet (between the shell and forehead padding) and when you push the slider forward, the tinted sunvisor clicks into place. It's really nice to never have to worry about having sunglasses or swapping out visors. If however you do want to swap the visors out, it literally takes about 10 seconds.
