Still getting used to counting gears so I can remember what gear I'm in. Still seem to want to shift past 6th and push down past 1st.

I used to do this, but now I dont have a problem. Dont think of it so much as what gear are you in, but more is the bike doing what I need it to be doing in the gear I'm in. Also just check what rpm and speed you are doing in 6th so you know. If you think you need to shift, and look down and see 7k at 100kph then you know not to :D

Works for me. As for shifting past first, never done that. How slow are you going? :p

ha. Yeah, when I come to a stop I'll usually give it a little tap downward to double check that I'm stopping in first.
As Felix said, the whole thing takes some getting used to.
iv gotten used to the tone my bike makes at what rpms and speed so i know what im gear in im usually worry about first and 6th gear is all i dont usually run though all my gears but that just me works for me so i keep doing it, it takes time soon you wont even think about it
I try to shift past 6th all the time, but that's no big deal, and when going down I just kick it down til it stops, since normally if I'm going slow enough to be in first I'm stopping soon anyway. Either way, don't feel bad, it just means you want more from the bike haha

When I'm coming to a stop at a stop sign, I just want to make sure I'm in 1st before I take off.

Does it matter if you take off in 1st from a stop? Just thought you had too.
i think you need to take a msf course.....

you cant take off from second gotta know your clutch pertty well and gas so you dont stall out but i think in time you will damage your bike.... just do it from first when im comming to a stop i down shift all the way till i see my green N then i sit and wait for the light when i see its gonna change i pull in the clutch kick it down one and i can feel the bike in gear cause i shakes moves a bit in place green light a little clutch feel it move and gas away works all the time, like i said in time the more you do it the more comfortable it gets and it will be like second nature you wont even think about it

Nah man, from a stop, keep it in 3rd, rev that puppy till it hits red and drop the clutch.... JUST KIDDING! I wouldn't advise doing this...

If you don't take off in first, your just gonna be wearing your clutch extra, like R6 said... Totally possible, but inadvisable.

I wouldn't ( take off from any gear but 1st from a stop ), I thought maybe you knew something I didn't.
my bike has trouble enough getting to go from first, i wouldn't even think about doing 2nd :p. and spooph, i'd love to see you do the redline in 3rd and drop the clutch. better have a stunt cage and a video camera. i'm thinking it will be quite the wheelie.
I've had two cars where 1st and almost 2nd and sometimes 3rd always ended in smoke and sideways :p

I generally clutch it to a stop in 1st I dont normally let the clutch out once in first and coming to a complete stop. Easy enough to takeoff in 2nd, but i like burning off in 1st... these bikes arnt quite up for fast 2nd gear takeoffs without a lot of clutch.

On my bike I can start off from a stop in 3rd if I wanted to. lol But I usually dont go all the way down to first untill I come to a complet stop, then I go to first. But still moving at a slow speed im in 2nd. I dont like going down into 1st because its just a choppy gear. If your moving and you shift to first the bike likes to stop very fast. But maybe R6 can answer this, but I hear on a bigger bike like a 600 you have to time your shifts perfect. For my 250 the clutch is very leanent on throddle and ammount of clutch. But anyways I just reconize the sound, rpm, and mph as to how fast im goin if I forget. But I really got good when I put my head phones on and I can feel the bike to how fast im going.
I have a 6er and I'm not sure what you mean about hitting them perfect, but upshifting I'm just quick about it and it goes pretty smooth, and downshifting if I just blip the throttle a little when downshifting it helps to alleviate the suddeness of re-engaging in a lower gear
i know if im clutchless shifting i have to be on the dot or else ill look like a retard, took me a while to figure it out and eh not a big fan of it rather use the clutch i think it sounds cooler down shifting as well iv down sfiter pertty had and felt my rear wheel skid a bit just gotta get used to it and learn
My friend had a CBR 600 and he said on that bike when he was takin off it had to like time the release and the throddle like perfect. Idk if he just sucked at riding or something. lol All I was told, and he rode my bike for a bike and said my clutch was more open. Like you can take a give more on the clutch then having to time it. There is still is a timing issue on the 250 but it did seem kind of easy first time I got on it and took it in town. I figured it would of been harder then it was for only clutch experience I ever had b4 my bike was a dirt bike for like half an hour.

HAHA, you'd be lucky if it didn't just die.... I can smell the clutch burn now!
