I drive an 02 ninja 500r

Trying to get my bike all fixed to get it inspected and of course one thing after another.

Finally replaced breaks and spliced in a new headlight pigtail because the other fused to the headlight....

Now gas was leaking from the shutoff valve area (misting, especially when I was at high RPMs), thought it was around the part I now know is the "diaphragm." Took the tank off and the screws could be slightly tightened maybe a 1/4 turn. Ended up just taking it apart and cleaning out some dirt. Then tightened it back up very snug.

Hooked it all back up and when I started, the leak was even worse to the point it was spitting a good amount of gas out from around the diaphragm.

I just got a new diaphragm in, thinking maybe the gaskets are just shot. If for some reason this fix doesn't work, any suggestions?

I had to replace the whole petcock on an 08 that had been sitting . The rubber was replaced but the pitted metal was still allowing fuel to leak out.
