Is there a benefit to not being able to edit our posts at anytime?

I could be wrong but believe it is to keep people accountable in what they post,like think before you flame etc.. also way to keep a lookout for spammers etc...
I just got the ability to edit with Mod status , That is how I hosed up one of Trevors post instead of replying. I am not used to the extra button I have now...

But if we need to edit it due to an error, then we have to make another post which if I am correct takes up memory aand bandwidth...I'm not a comp guy so...lol

I do understand your thoughts on keeping people accountable though.
