So I’m young, first new bike, saved all my pennies and ta dah, ninja 250. And I was smart too saved up another $1500 for the best thing I could think off to go along with my new toy… GOOD RIDING GEAR anyways now I’m tapped and no offence but our ninjas need some basic free-ish mods any one can do in 10 min.

FRIST! Remove ALL dumb school boy ,short short wearing reflectors. Two orange ones on the front fender, and two red ones on a bracket for license plate turn counter-clockwise, remove. Next with adjustable wrench remove reflector mount, turning counter-clockwise *NOTE BE CAREFUL* not much to bite on too, very east to scratch plastic.

SECOND! Remove chain guard, turn counter-clockwise remove two bolts with wrench.

THIRD! Remove left side passenger foot peg, turn counter-clockwise remove two bolts with Allen-key.

FOURTH! FENDER ELIMINATOR! Mock up with license plate, use painters tape for line. Use jig-saw with a metal blade, NOT wood. Cut and sand and BAM! Free rear fender eliminator until I can buy a new one!

Oh and lastly don’t be cheap, go out and buy the best tank pad money can buy! Just tape some string to center of your gas cap, run it down the tank and to the rear seat key hole to find center.
Let me know what you all think, what else is cheap? Free mods?

Haha!! you talk about all of these free mods, but then say don't be cheap on the tank protector!!

One thing I don't agree with is the removal of the chain guard. Big no-no in my books! There is a very good reason why that is there, and it is not to make the bike look ugly! Remember all those times as a kid you came off your bike cause your pants got stuck in the chain and threw you off? I certainly do! Now imagine that at highway speeds!

Anyway, in regards to other free mods, there is the Kleen Air removal mod, and the snorkel removed from the airbox, and also if you are mechanically minded, shim the carbies. Unlike Boar who provided the links, I am too lazy!!! :p The search bar is your friend!!

Welcome! You're gonna fit right in here! Proper intro: check. Pics: check. Lust for mods: check. Priorities straight (riding gear): check.

I would agree with Zandit though, not just for keeping your pants from getting caught in the chain, but from keeping chain lube off the underside of the body work. There isn't a product on the market which will not fling off the chain at least a little, and gunky/greasy body work is NO FUN! If anything, maybe figure out how to cut the back part of it, and mold on a new plastic curv which follows the contour of the chain to make it blend in a little? Also, if you've removed the left passenger peg and bracket, you might as well remove the right side peg. Just the peg, not the bracket, obviously it's also the exhaust mount.... The c-clip on the bottom pops off, the hing slides out, and the peg is free - just remember how it all goes back together if you ever have to put it back.... Best of luck!

Thanks spooph and zandit, definitely don’t want to be constantly cleaning oil gunk off my plastics or have anything snagged. Im planning on getting the A-Tech Carbon Fiber Rear Hugger and from the pics looks like it mounts where the chain guard was. Looks a little cleaner without it but for the time being definitely go through it back on.
