Hey all! Was riding home yesterday and the bike felt funny as if it wasn't pulling right. I twisted the throttle with little to no response but maintained my speed (roughly 75 MPH). Concerned I down shifted and prepared to slow down and stop but instead throttled up again and the response was back. Sounded sputtery if that's a word but it was better. After a few minutes of running it seemed ok.

My thoughts lead me to believe that either there was a clog in a fuel line somewhere (filter is brand new about 1000 miles ago) or there is a minor disruption in the carburetor (wouldn't be surprised I haven't cleaned it since I bought it about 2500 miles ago maybe). Another thought that I had would be the spark plugs but the power coming back makes me think it's firing ok but there was a disruption that cleared out. Maybe the air filter too?

Any help would be appreciated. Gotta take her for my license this week coming up and don't want to take any chances.

Thanks!!!

Hi,
You didn't say what model or year of manufacture your bike was. I think early models C1 and earlier suffered from carb icing. C2 had heaters fitted. I hope that helps a little.

It's a 99 zx9r. Pretty sure c1. I just changed the plugs and I'll see how that goes. Haven't seen any problems since the one ride but still keeping an eye on it.

Hi I looked up to see what I'd read before. If your bike hasn't been fitted with carb heaters this seems a quick cheap and easy fix. 👍

About Silkolene PRO FST Fuel System Treatment For Petrol Engines
PRO FST protects against cold start wear and fuel system corrosion and helps to remove deposits from injectors, intake systems and carburettors ensuring optimum performance. It is very effective against carburettor icing in low temperature environments, and combats starting problems, stalling and rough running at low engine revs.

PRO FST may be used in leaded and unleaded fuel, for 2 and 4-stroke engines. It reduces the incidence of pre-ignition and also enhances the fuel’s octane rating to a small extent.

Dosage recommended mix ratio:- 1 to 2% of PRO FST in fuel. (100 parts fuel:1 part oil to 50 parts fuel:1 part

Hey man it could be the carbs. Could probably use a cleaning. How many miles are on it? I just replaced the spark plugs and rode all day Saturday and she was running great! Not sure how related it was to the fix but something to consider. I got mine from kneedraggers.com. Ngk irridiums. $40 for the 4 of them. Good spot to try if you aren't comfortable breaking down a carb.
