hey guys i just picked up a 88 500 EX on june 1st so to start out it was backfiring at around 5 0r 6 tho when i shifted when i got it so i took apart carbs cleaned them out and also cleaned jets and changed spark plugs so when i was testin to see if i fixed the backfire problem i got it right up to redline and when i shifted it backfired a puff of white smoke came out muffler and now it has a light knock in engine and it won't go over 6000 rpms when i get up to 6000 it bogs down when i accelerate any ideas? its my first bike and i don't know much yet about workin on it but i know its killin me a little inside to be sittin here typin and not out there raising hell on the bike SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

well just went and messed with it took carb out and checked it and put it back in and now it won't even start just white smoke out muffler when i try to start it guess i just gonna sell the fuckin thing

so ya i found out it had way to much oil in it drained it out but think i may have fried something now when i start it runs real ruff and smokes white out of muffler and stauls out won't stay running any one got any idea what i did?

First: When I read your posts, I think of this:

isn't the 420 supposed to mellow you out?

Second: you blew a head gasket. You've probably done other damage as well by revving it and diagnosing it. You're probably better off taking the bike to a shop and having it fixed by a professional. Best of luck with the fix.
