I got to attend the first flight of Boeing's new plane, the 787 ( Dreamliner ) . Here's some pics from the Boeing side of the airfield.

It was a very special moment to see it take to the air.

Is this supposed to compete with the A380? is it comparable in size, or smaller? This just doesn't look that big?

The 787 is a twin-aisle aircraft. It can hold just over 200 people but will have a range of around 9000 miles. It's main structures are made of carbon fiber giving it the ability to comsume 20 pecent less fuel. It will also have larger windows and will be pressurized in a manner that should be more comfortable. It was not built to compete with the Airbus A380, ( Boeing has a soon-to-release 747-8 for that market ) but rather give the airlines what they asked for ; a long-range plane that can go from point to point.
