2013 Kawasaki Z250 Streetfighter Motorcycle: All you need to know

Yesterday, Kawasaki launched the 2013 Z250 street fighter motorcycle in Indonesia, in a global unveiling of sorts. The 2013 Kawasaki Z250 is the street fighter(unfaired) version of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R fully faired sportsbike. So, it is only fitting that the Z250 share plenty of parts with the Ninja 250R. The Z250 uses the same 250cc parallel twin four stroke engine that is found on the 2013 Ninja 250R. This motor is good for 33 Bhp of peak power and 22 Nm of peak torque. The engine gets a big list of improvements for the Ninja 250R and the same have been carried over to the Z250.

The transmission is a 6 speed manual unit. The Z250 also shares the track honed chassis of the Ninja 250R and this should endow the Z250 with good handling given that the Ninja is a sweet handler. The motorcycle also shares the telescopic front forks and the monoshock rear. Instrumentation, alloy wheels, brakes and the overall body of the Z250 including the seats and other parts of the cowling is shared with the Ninja 250R. One major difference though, is the seating position of the Z250, which is more upright than that of the Ninja 250R, owing to a flatter single piece handlebar.

The flatter handlebar will make the Z250 more manageable in the city with better flickability. The Kawasaki Z250 weighs 168 kilograms, which is about 5 kilograms lighter than the 2013 Ninja 250R. The exhaust end can is also a tweaked design, to suit the character of the Z250. The mean looking headlamps are new and so is the tank and the extensions that complete the street fighter styling of the Z250. Apart from these changes, the unfaired Z250 is a Ninja 250R without the fairing. The Z250 is manufactured at Kawasaki’s Thailand plant, from where it will be exported to countries across the world.

The 2013 Kawasaki Z250 is expected to sold in Europe and Japan as well. Details about the Indian launch for this motorcycle remains unknown at this point in time. In Indonesia, the motorcycle is priced at 48.5 Million Indonesian Rupiah, which is about INR 2.66 lakhs. Built mainly for city commutes and the occasional highway jaunt, the Kawasaki Z250 will compete with the likes of the Suzuki Inazuma 250 and the KTM Duke 390 in most international markets. The performance of the Z250 will fall in between the Inazuma and the Duke.

Carbed or FI?

Looks like they have taken the headlight from the Z800 and just whacked it onto the front end!
